Malacca was the trade centre of Southeast Asia during the 16th century, bringing together merchants from as far as China, the Middle East and Europe. It was colonised by the Dutch and Portuguese and these influences can be seen in famous monuments such as A Famosa and St Paul’s church.

Aside from historical sites and museums, there’s also the Malacca River which you can experience either through a river cruise or a relaxing afternoon in one of the many establishments along its historical banks. The tin mining boom in the 19th century attracted early Chinese settlers who went on to establish the township of Ipoh. The former British colony is an island in North Malaysia heavily shaped by Chinese, Malay, Indian and European influences. Its capital city of George Town is a UNESCO heritage recognised and host to many multi-cultural festivals throughout the year.
